I’ve been toying with the idea of a velvet dress for a while – what better way to capture this season’s gothic trend than with a textured LBD? But as much as I love the idea of velvet, I quickly realised the fabric doesn’t love me. Either the dresses clung in all the wrong places, or the tops made me look like a 90’s throwback (and not in a fashionable way, more reminiscent of a curtain).
So I was rather pleased when I came across this little bargain from New Look. The fit of the slightly flared skirt means the fabric doesn’t cling, and the longer arms mean the effects of too many maltesers/minstrels are safely covered up. And for under £20, you really can’t go wrong.
I’ve paired the dress with one of my staple silk scarves (I live in them, this one was £1 from Brick Lane!), a Primark belt, and some Topshop heeled Chelsea boots.
What do you think about velvet making a comeback?
